AU History -
- Anthony Howard Stark was born to Free Marcher merchant prince Howard Stark, and the daughter of the Comte de Val Foret, Maria de Val Foret, in 9:01. The Stark family provided weaponry - siege weaponry, to all the major cities in the Free Marches.
- 9:06, Tony Stark builds his first siege weapon, something he merely calls 'Door Smasher', built on the back of his tiny wooden wagon. It lives up to its name. He is also informally 'betrothed' to Adelaide LeBlanc, something he protests even at his young age.
- 9:12, Adelaide shows signs of magic and is sent to the Circle. Tony now refuses to call off the betrothal even though it is informal.
- 9:16, Tony graduates from the University of Orlais with a degree in Artificing. He also discovers girls and wine.
- 9:17, Tony's parents die in a carriage accident. Howard's partner, Obadiah Stane, takes over the business.
- 9:22 - Tony takes full control of his father's weaponry empire, and immediately starts bringing back plans for full scale siege weaponry. He also brokers a deal with the young Empress Celine to provide arms and armor for the Imperial Army.
- 9:25 - Brokers a deal with the Orlaisian government to sell them the newest prototypes for newer siege weaponry, along with offering upgrades to the Chantry for Templar armor.
- 9:40-9:41, Tony is kidnapped by bandits, who are really Gaspard's men, trying to get him to build them his latest siege weaponry. Using an old suit of armor, some high levels of artificery and maybe a little bit of runes, and with the help of a mage by the name of Bruce, Tony escapes but Bruce is lost in the ensuing 'rescue'.
- 9:41-current, While in the middle of his escape, a Fade Rift opens up and puts a shard in the middle of Tony's chest. It's only through the quick application of a rune that keep it from going into his heart, but that rune is now necessary to be worn on his person at all times to keep him alive.
Personality
To most, Tony comes off as an arrogant playboy who treats most people like inferiors -- not because they do not have as much money as him, but because they do not have his level of genius. He comes off as callous, completely self interested and self-absorbed, a narcissist who is more in love with the scandal he can cause then in the fate of the world around him.
They're not wrong. Tony can be an arrogant asshole. A charmer, a rogue with a silver tongue, but still. Arrogant asshole.
Yet those who know Tony best that Tony wears his arrogance as much as any Orlesian wears a mask. Beyond the cool exterior is a man who is still trying to live up to a father he both hates and loves, but overall admires for all his genius. He is a person who learned not to get close to others, and so keeps them at arms length, but he is also a person that once you get past that shell -- he will give you the shirt off his back. He is obsessively loyal to those who have proven themselves to be friends, and a great deal of that stems from still searching for someone to approve of him. Be it father-figure, friend, or lover - he wants to accepted for him, not the rich playboy genius artificer, but just plain Tony.
For all of his devil-may-care attitude, Tony is carrying a lot of emotional scars. From an emotionally distant father that he feels he resembles all too closely to drinking excessively to avoid dealing with his boredom if his mind can't rest. He's a genius when it comes to machinery, an expert on how to charm, but when it comes to relating, making real connections to normal people he is at something of an impasse. He truly believed he loved science more than he loves people, but the truth that was revealed to him while he was captured, was ... in the end, he loved people, far more than he even loved himself.
Realizing that his actions with Gaspard, whom he had been selling to without knowing it, were killing innocent people? Drove him to swear that he would never sell another military grade weapon again, and that he would only develop equipment to help the people of Thedas.
With that promise in mind, he packed up his entire workstation and headed to the Inquisition, in the hopes that they would need someone of his skills, and so he could make up for all the death he had caused by saving lives There is no one more willing to flog themselves for guilt, than Tony Stark. Whether or not this move to the Inquisition will save him, or send him directly to spiraling down through the bottle, has yet to be seen.
Strengths and Weaknesses
- He is unbelievably intelligent. Graduating from the University of Orlais, there is very little about machines and devices that he does not understand.
And what he doesn't understand, he'll learn in a very small amount of time.
- He is an expert armor and weaponsmith - he has known the forge since he was old enough to bounce on his father's knee.
- He's Rich. So he will throw money at a good cause like there's no one's business.
- He can be charming - the life of the party in fact. He'll have you laughing one moment, and in his bed in the next.
Weaknesses
- Wow ... is he one arrogant son-of-a-bitch, and that gets him in trouble. A lot. Because he thinks he is smarter than everyone else, everyone is looking to take him down a peg. Or five.
- His 'I don't really care' mask often has people treating him like he's a man-child who needs to be scolded. While he is respected for his genius, he is often sneered at for his lack of maturity.
- He can be reckless, and people might even say he's got some sort of Death Wish. That might be true - he wants to push limits as much as possible. To see what kind of man he really is. The problem is, he never really asks the question -- 'Should I?'
- He's Rich. Which means the leeches follow him. Sigh. Sorry Cullen and Josephine.
- He's human. No, seriously, ordinary human. He's got no special abilities, no great genetic background except for brains. He can stab and be bled out just as fast as anyone else.
Inventory
- A very fancy wagon, based on the Dalish aravael, that can become it's own moving campsite with all the comforts of home.
- Chest filled with fancy clothes.
- Chest filled with fancy, handmade tools in which he will be using to craft marvels.
- ChestS filled with gold for himself and the Inquisition coffers.
- A very experimental set of armor that Tony will constantly be tweaking. There is a hole in the center where he is trying to augment a power source in. He pulls on the gauntlets alone when he is going to do battle on the road.
- Books. So many books.
- A bathtub and everything needed for said bathtub. He likes to be clean.
- A bed, and bedding.
- Food. And wine. And brandy. And whiskey. And ... okay listen he has a lot of liquor, okay?
- A portable forge. You heard him.
- Two Orliasian bred horses. They are called with all fondness, Dummy and Happy.
Motivation
Tony is heading to the Inquisition for three very simple reasons - one, to make up for all the horror that his creations have brought upon Thedas, two, ... He Has A Shard In The Middle Of His Chest. Maker's breath, let him help you close Rifts and then help him not Die.
Three ... he's built a suit of armor. He wants to rebuild that suit of armor, but he used augments before. Those augments burn out and he wants to figure out how to make permanent ones ...
